Getting to Know the Father
It was 1970, and a cold December evening in Maine when the call came in. I was seven years old at the time. I was late and I was tucked into bed for the evening. My room was dark with a glimpse of light peeking in from the kitchen. I was still awake. I could here my mother talking on the phone. It wasn’t a typical phone call. Something was terribly wrong. I could hear it in my mom’s distraught voice.
There was no sleeping at this point. My senses were aroused. With my heart pounding, I had to go and check and see how my mother was doing. I could hear her crying. Then, in the middle of the night, a knock came on our door.
That was the night I would learn that my mother lost a husband, and my little brother and I lost a father to a tragic incident.
By the time I was twelve years old, my mother had also passed away from an illness. My brother and I were orphans.
By God’s blessing, we were adopted by my mom’s younger brother of fourteen siblings. My mom and dad were close to my uncle and aunt. They became very close friends. My uncle knew my dad very well.
I had many wonderful memories of my father when he was alive. I don’t recall any bad ones. He was a loving, kind, and gentle man. My time spent growing up with my uncle gave me the opportunity to hear stories of my father that I had not known.
In fact, I learned more about my father from my uncle than I had already known through my own experiences with him when he was alive. It was a blessing to have my uncle raise me and keep me on the straight and narrow path. It was as much a blessing to get to know the father that I was given such a short time with through him.
Isaiah and the One Thousand Year Reign of Christ
Isaiah was one of four major prophets. The other three being Daniel, Ezekiel, and Jeremiah. The position of major prophet was given due to the amount of writings that came from these four prophets of God.
It’s likely that Isaiah was born into a family of Jewish prominence and raised in Jerusalem. This is pointed out due to his proximity and access to the kings of Judah of his day.
Isaiah was a husband and father to two sons. His name meant “Yahweh (the Lord) is salvation.” He prophesied under four kings of Judah. He began his ministry twenty years before the fall of the Northern Kingdom to the Assyrians.
Isaiah’s ministry witnessed a divided kingdom. Unfortunately, he also witnessed both kingdoms fall to foreign empires. He most often used the fall of the Northern Kingdom of Israel to prophecy against the pagan behaviors of Judah and Jerusalem. This was to warn them that the same disaster would fall on them if they didn’t change their ways and return to God.
The writers of the New Testament quote Isaiah no less than sixty-five times. In fact, Isaiah is quoted in the New Testament more than any other Old Testament prophet. He’s also mentioned by name at least twenty times in the New Testament.
Jesus began His ministry in Nazareth by first quoting from Isaiah as He taught in the temple. Isaiah also stands as the first prophet of the Old Testament to reveal the coming of the Messiah. In fact, Isaiah dedicates an entire chapter to Christ as the “Suffering Servant” in Isaiah 53.
Isaiah described many things including the wrath of God to come upon the ungodly. But he also shared extraordinary views of a glorious kingdom inherited by Christ that would come in the near future.
What Will Jesus’ Reign On the Earth Look Like?
In addition to all this, Isaiah reveals in details throughout his book the coming rule of what we know to be the glorious thousand year reign of Jesus Christ.
What will it be like during that time? Let’s find out as we seek the city to come. Continue with us on this journey as we explore details only found in Isaiah. You’ll be glad you did.
Isaiah, God’s Special Prophet
In many ways, Isaiah was very similar to my uncle who adopted and raised me. By God’s blessing, through my uncle, I got to know my earthly father.
In the same way, we can get to know who our heavenly Father is through Isaiah. In many ways, Isaiah was a special prophet for the Lord. God chose to reveal many wonderful things to Isaiah that were not revealed to other prophets.
Through Isaiah, God reveals His beautiful attributes of complete holiness, perfect love, boundless mercy, abundant grace, righteous justness, and forgiveness beyond comprehension.
But God didn’t just use Isaiah to reveal himself to us. He used this major prophet to reveal blessings and glories that would come to those who love and follow Christ. God spoke of a time of wrath that would come in the last days for the unrepentant sinners.
One Thousand Year Reign of Jesus Christ
God also spoke of a glorious time, when our blessed hope and Savior would return as He told us ages ago. In his return, evil would be defeated. Then He would set up a kingdom where He will reign in perfect righteousness and holiness.
It will be a one thousand year period where we would reign with him, all the nations that remained on the earth after the Great Tribulation. The explicit details that Isaiah records of this Messianic Era are amazing in the least. Isaiah’s recordings from God gives us an amazing glimpse into what it’ll be like in this marvelous time where we will be with our Lord of lords and King of kings.
Let’s go and peek behind the curtains into this magnificent future one thousand year kingdom ruled by Christ also known as the Messianic Era or Millennial Kingdom.
