Why Are People Suddenly Afraid of AI?
Will AI destroy humanity? Could AI become so powerful that humanity eventually loses control to the point that it no longer exists?
These questions are generating increasing concern as artificial intelligence advances at an extraordinary pace.
Some AI researchers warn that increasingly capable systems could pose catastrophic risks to humanity. But while the world debates whether AI could bring about humanity’s destruction, Christians should be asking another question.
Could artificial intelligence become part of the system the Bible describes in Revelation 13—the coming Mark of the Beast system?
The Bible provides something technological predictions cannot: a prophetic framework for understanding humanity’s future.
Scripture reveals the coming Antichrist, the False Prophet, the image of the Beast, the Mark of the Beast, and a system of authority that will restrict who can buy and sell.
The Bible does not directly mention artificial intelligence by name. But it does point to it indirectly.
Before we decide what AI means for the future, let’s look at what God has already told us about the future. Then we can answer the question, “Will AI destroy humanity?”
What About People Saying AI Will Kill Everyone?
Artificial intelligence is already transforming how we work, communicate, research, and solve problems. Tasks that once required hours can sometimes be completed in seconds.
But technological progress often introduces unexpected consequences.
Consider the computer revolution. Computers promised greater efficiency, less paperwork, and more personal freedom. Although they delivered extraordinary benefits, they also blurred the boundaries between work and personal life while introducing new forms of surveillance and dependence on technology.
Artificial intelligence presents similar opportunities and risks, potentially on a much greater scale.
Among the legitimate concerns are cyberattacks, sophisticated deception, autonomous weapons, financial fraud, invasive surveillance, economic disruption, and job displacement.
These dangers deserve serious consideration. But there is an important distinction between recognizing AI’s potential for harm and declaring that it will inevitably destroy humanity.
Christians should take technological risks seriously without allowing technological speculation to replace biblical prophecy. Embrace its usefulness. Don’t rely on it for spiritual matters. Offer it very little personal information.
Technology may change how humanity lives. But does it change what God has revealed about humanity’s future?
Does Bible Prophecy Reveal Humanity’s Future?
We live in an extraordinarily blessed generation. Through archeology and extensively sound doctrinal study of the Bible, we possess more evidence and understanding of Bible prophecy than any other generation before us. We see with greater clarity than ever before, the stage being set for the events of the end of this age.
All prophecy is converging at this very moment.
Bible prophecy is no longer a faint image in a distant foggy future. We stand in the midst of it. And AI is casting a light on some of the last mysteries of these last days events leading to the Tribulation.
Daniel the prophet spoke of this long ago:
“But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.” (Daniel 12:4)
Today, people are gaining incredible knowledge and seeing evidence of the coming days.
But exercise extreme caution when seeking knowledge; the world is full of false teachers and pastors who seek to deceive many, as Scripture warns.
Even Jesus warned us when He taught about the events of the end of this age.
“He said, ‘Watch that no one deceives you.’” (Matthew 24:4)
So, yes, we do have the biblical knowledge and wisdom to answer the question, Will AI destroy humanity?
Is AI the Antichrist or the Beast?
For generations, people have been infactuated with Revelation 13:18:
“This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.” (Revelation 13:18)
People have attempted to identify the coming Antichrist by calculating the mysterious number 666.
Revelation 13:18 describes this number as the number of a man.
Throughout history, presidents, religious leaders, and political figures have been identified as possible candidates. Yet none of these identifications has established who the coming man of lawlessness will be.
Paul gave us insight into when the antichrist would be revelaled:
“And now you know what is holding him (antichrist) back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. 7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.” (2 Thessalonians 2:6-7)
In other words, the restrainer—the Holy Spirit, who lives in all believers in the Lord Jesus Christ—holds back the antichrist’s revelation. At the rapture, Jesus will gather believers to meet him, and the Holy Spirit will depart. Then the antichrist will appear.
Not surprisingly, every prediction of the coming antichrist has failed to reveal the coming man of lawlessness. But perhaps our fascination with identifying the Antichrist has caused us to overlook another extraordinary feature of Revelation 13.
How could one system restrict buying and selling across populations on such an enormous scale?
That question brings us to artificial intelligence.
Could AI Power the Mark of the Beast System?
To appreciate the significance of artificial intelligence in relation to Bible prophecy, we need to examine two extraordinary verses.
“It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads,” (Revelation 13:16)
If there is one word to describe these two verses, it would be “control.”
The first word in the verse is “it.” This points to an image of the antichrist that will be created in his likeness. In other words, he will attempt to be omnipresent like God. His image will be cast across the globe for everyone to see.
According to multiple news outlets, Mark Zuckerberg has been secretly developing a 3D AI clone of himself. It will mirror his image, mannerism, tone of his voice and his strategic thinking. The “it” is already being developed.
Next, the verse points to something that will be forced upon “all people.” John identifies the rich and poor, the powerful and powerless, and those who occupy every level of society.
We’ve already witnessed this during the Covid pandemic. In order to participate in this or that, you needed to get your Covid vaccine.
In today’s terms, let’s look at what “all people” stands for. According to the World Population Clock there are 8.3 billion people in the world.
How could restrictions of that magnitude be administered?
This could happen by placing a burden on people that would be to great to endure. In other words, they would be forced to participate in the Mark to purchase gas, buy groceries for your family, or medicine that sustains life.
“so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.” (Revelation 13:17)
Beyond Control of the Beast System
For generations, the practical mechanisms were difficult to envision. Today, digital identification, automated payment processing, biometric recognition, CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency), and AI offer possible ways to administer increasingly complex systems.
AI can analyze enormous volumes of information, identify patterns, verify identities, and support automated decisions. When connected to financial and identification systems, these capabilities could potentially help enforce restrictions on transactions.
There is also something more important than the technology itself.
One AI development deserves a closer look. The Stargate project and its prophetic implications represent the scale and ambition of today’s AI infrastructure—and raise questions about how technology may intersect with Revelation 13.
Revelation 13:12–15 connects the Beast’s system with deception, worship, and allegiance. The Mark is therefore much more than an economic identification requirement.
It belongs to a system of rebellion against God.
That is why understanding the spiritual purpose behind the Mark is even more important than identifying its possible technological components.
This brings us much closer to answering that nagging question, Will AI destroy humanity?
The Bigger Picture: AI May Be Part of the Infrastructure—But It Isn’t the Prophecy
AI is advancing so rapidly, those who are building it are building themselves bunkers to protect against the very thing they created. Leaving the rest of us behind to deal with the monster they developed.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly advancing to become the system that will be capable of monitoring the entire globe. It will watch every transaction and see to it that everyone who’s is buying has the mark of the beast. If not, it will deny you access in real time without the need for any human intervention.
AI likely could not take on this task today. But once it becomes interconnected globally to the surveillance systems that are in place, the Bible’s future truth will become today’s reality.
Many experts believe we are a lot closer than we think to this reality.
There is no official database. This information comes from several unofficial sources. But according to Data Center Map’s August 2026 database there are an estimated 3,359 data centers in operation in the U.S.. The most reliable data show that developers have announced plans for or begun building more than 5,000 data centers.
To keep this in perspective, we need to remember that the size and capabilities of data centers do vary.
Across the United States and around the world, companies are investing in increasingly powerful data centers. Some new facilities require hundreds of megawatts of electricity, while proposed AI campuses are reaching gigawatt-scale power requirements.
But computing power is only one part of the picture.
Consider what could happen if we linked AI to widespread surveillance, biometric identification, digital identity systems, and automated financial transactions.
Such integration could make it possible to monitor activity, verify identities, and restrict access to certain services with limited human intervention.
That possibility raises an important question concerning Revelation 13:17.
Could these technologies eventually provide the infrastructure needed to enforce the buying-and-selling restrictions described in Bible prophecy?
They could potentially contribute to such a system, although Scripture does not identify the mechanism. But the obvious is quite clear.
The Stargate project is a striking example of this emerging AI infrastructure and the enormous computing capacity being developed for the next generation of artificial intelligence.
Could Central Bank Digital Currency Become Part of the Beast System?
Another development worth examining is central bank digital currency, commonly called CBDC.
Unlike ordinary commercial-bank deposits, a CBDC would represent digital money issued by a central bank. It’s presented as a currency, but it is more of a control grid. It would allow the surveilling, tracking, permanent recording of every financial transaction across the globe.
In combination with digital identification and automated enforcement, certain designs could potentially support extensive control over financial transactions.
The Bible does not identify CBDCs as the Mark of the Beast. What Revelation does reveal is that the Beast’s system will restrict economic participation.
The important distinction is this:
Scripture reveals the coming restrictions. Modern technology offers possible explanations for how they might be enforced.
Keep in mind through all of this. None of this is a mystery to God. It is happening through His divine sovereignty. It’s not happening because it’s out of His control. It’s happening because He’s in control of it all and He already told us this was going to happen.
Will AI Destroy Humanity? What Scripture Reveals
So, will artificial intelligence destroy humanity?
The Bible does not predict that AI will bring about human extinction. Instead, Scripture reveals a future involving the Tribulation, the rise and defeat of the Beast (antichrist), the return of Jesus Christ, and the fulfillment of God’s promises.
These events lead to Christ’s earthly reign and ultimately to the new heaven and new earth.
Artificial intelligence may become an important component of future systems of surveillance, identification, and economic control. But we are not to assume that it is out of God’s control.
We should also recognize that AI presents genuine risks. Biblical prophecy is not a reason to dismiss concerns about its misuse or potential for catastrophic harm.
What Scripture does provide is a larger perspective.
Humanity’s ultimate future is not determined by artificial intelligence. God’s redemptive purposes will prevail.
That is the assurance Christians can carry into an increasingly uncertain technological age. God is sovereign and His purposes will prevail as they have since the beginning of time. Remember, those who have a personal relationship with Christ will be kept from all the is coming in the Tribulation.
“Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.” (Revelation 3:10)
